Holograph letter, signed by Van Zandt, begs Sheriff Matson to permit Van Zandt's daughter, Nina Van Zandt Spies, to visit her husband, August Spies, in jail. Dear Mr. Matson It is very painful to be so importuning - but when I see the distress and anguish of my child there is nothing for me to do but plead with you to turn the key. Looking at the matter seriously I am satisfied if we cannot do something very soon my sorrow will only have begun. May I beg of you to let her in today or tomorrow.
